As girls go, I'm not especially girlie. Take shopping, for example. I usually only shop for myself if I have a killer coupon and a gift card. And then I'll usually buy "clothes for teaching," as my husband likes to tease, or something to lounge around in on the weekends. I don't go in for lots of jewelry, or make-up, or feminine do-dads. My big toes still host the remnants of a pedicure (total splurge!) I had back in September. So, you get the idea: sister Grimm is not a girlie-girl.
Sometimes, however, I hear the call of the Earth Goddess, beckoning me to brighten up my frumpy world with a dash of happy: Flowers! Who doesn't enjoy buying oneself some posies for the kitchen table (I go for sunflowers myself), or better yet, receiving an unexpected bouquet from one's one-and-only (or the other one)? Valentines Day is just around the corner, and while even the best greeting cards for the day lean toward corny, flowers, my dear (there is a hint here for my husband, should he still actually read my blog posts) are never cliche. There are ample sites for purchasing flowers online should you want to pluck a petal or two. Serenata Flowers looks like an affordable option for my friends "across the pond." This seller is currently offering a dozen roses for £19.99 and free standard delivery within the UK. That sounds like a good deal to me! So often it seems when you order flowers online, the shipping costs as much as the gladiolas! This particular site ships world-wide. In addition to offering a beautiful selection of flowers, Serenata Flowers also sells plants, wine, chocolates, and "hampers" (!?! -- Just for the record, folks, in America, hampers are where we keep our dirty undies and such until wash day. "Hampers" in the Queen's English refers, it seems, to the kinds of things one might pack in a picnic basket ensemble -- the wine, cheese, chocolate, impress-her-then-invite-home-for-coffee-(sorry, tea)-selection.
If you do plan on buying flowers for your sweetheart this Valentine's Day, for goodness sake, do a little research into the matter. My Mum once gave me an earful for buying her mums. Go figure! And roses are an especially touchy subject: Yellow for friendship, red, of course, for love. "Wait! What about white?" you ask, "What about peach?"
Are you kidding me? I'm not that girlie!

I feel the same. I have two pairs of dress pants that I wash numerous times a week just so I don't have to make a trip to the mall to get another pair! My kitchen is done in sunflowers which I love because they are bright :) And last week I was ecstatic because I found a bouquet of daisies and carnations from Wal-Mart for a mere $2.99 and they lasted a whole two weeks!
